About Buffalo NY
Buffalo is the second most populous city in the state of New York (United States). Located in the west of the state, on the eastern shore of Lake Erie and at the head of the Niagara River opposite the Canadian city of Fort Erie ( province of Ontario ). Buffalo NY is the county seat of Erie County and the principal city of the Buffalo-Niagara metropolitan area, the largest in upstate New York.
In 1789 the Holland Land Company appointed Theophile Cazenove of Philadelphia as their agent in the newly created area near Batavia. Cazenove then hired José Ellicott to survey the area and establish a town on the Buffalo River. Ellicott decided to use the radio model for the new village, which he called “New Amsterdam”, centering it around Niagara Square. In 1800 the residents of the small town agreed to change the name of the city to Buffalo. In 1808 the name was officially changed.
